little concerned with this new finding

Heard on the news the other night that they are suggesting that we not give children under 6 over the counter cough medicine. They've sited reasons such as over dosing, hallucinations and 6 deaths . why are we only hearing about this research now? I've raised a lot of children and now a grandson and they've all gotten over the counter cough syrups... my big question though is if they say dont use that are they suggesting we go to a Dr for every sniffle? we can't get in to see a Dr now..this is going to create a huge problem
