Waiting just a few minutes to clamp the umbilical cord after a baby is born could boost iron stores in the newborn's blood, but delayed cord clamping comes with an increased risk of jaundice, according to a new review of studies.

Given the recent discussion on the use of over the counter cough syrup I thought I would share a good article that I found when doing research about this.  I personally found this to be the most unbiased and informative article.  I particularly like how it breaks down the medicinal ingredients in cough syrup, the intended benefit as well as the risks.

If I ever get brave enough I will share my own personal struggle with more than one of these post-partum mood disorders.  Until then I will share with you the article that was the lightbulb for me recognizing that what I was experiencing was not normal and that finally made me realize that I had a problem and that I really was not going crazy.

                Gentian violet (1% solution in water) is still an excellent treatment for Candida albicans.  Candida albicans is a fungus that may cause an infection of skin and/or mucous membranes (inside of mouth, for example) in both children and adults.  In small children, this yeast is a frequent cause of white patches in the mouth (thrush), or diaper rash.
