Well, I hesitate to post it, but I think I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with Brennan's sleeping issues. I have been working REALLY hard to make nap and bedtime routines consistent and to avoid the temptation to bring him into our bed when he wakes at night. It has been so difficult and there have been many tears, both him and me but I feel like where we are FINALLY getting to a place where we are both getting quality rest.
Brennan has not been in our bed for 5 nights straight and for two of those nights the only time he was up through the night was for his normal 3-4am feeding. One of those nights he was up once and quickly settled after a couple of minutes of me rubbing his tummy. Two of those nights were brutal!
For the last 2 nights Brennan has gone down at night without a peep...HEAVEN! I've not been so successful at nap time but I'm beginning to think he cries at nap time because he can hear Aidan playing so next week I am going to try changing Aidan's routine up a bit so that he is engaged in something quiet at Brennan's nap times.
I also notice that Brennan has been taking to his blanket a lot better which I really believe is helping with the sleeping because he holds on to the blanket. I'm not sure if it is coincidence or not but Santa put a bottle of the Johnson's Lavender Lotion in Brennan's stocking. I've put it on him a couple of nights and then rubbed the excess from my hands on his blanket. So maybe he likes the smell of his blanket now?!?
I should mention that as I was typing the last paragraph of this the little stinker woke up....he's probably trying to tell me that it is a little early to be declaring success :)
