I'm going to start off by saying that I am or maybe was totally against CIO but I think I may be doing it now?
The past 2 nights have been much better.
Saturday night DH put Declan to bed at 8:30pm while I was out. When I got home at 11:30pm he had started to stir a bit so we decided to leave him alone and see what happens. 10 minutes was going to be our breaking point. Declan fussed for about 8 minutes and then went back to sleep. Neither DH or I went into his room at all. He woke up again at 3:15am and again we didn't go in. This time he fussed for 9 minutes and then went back to sleep (I was preparing to go in and soothe him). He awoke again at 6:00am and was awake for less than 5 minutes.
We didn't enter his room once that night and it was the first time he's gone through the night without milk. He nursed like it was going out of style at 8:00am though LOL
Sunday night he was asleep by 8:45pm. This time he didn't wake up until 3:30am! We left him again and this time he fussed for about 12 minutes. I kept putting off going to soothe him because I knew (hoped!) he would go back to sleep on his own......and he did! He woke up at 7:59am this morning and nursed again like he hadn't eaten in 48 hours!
I feel extremely guilty for letting him cry and I almost didn't write this. I feel like I have more patience now that I've had more rest.
Now we have to work on naps! He has been taking 1 nap a day for the past 4-5 days but they aren't very long. Ideally I would like him to sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon but I'm luck if I get an hour out of him.
The book I bought called Healthy Sleeping, Healthy Child (or something like that) I find horrible. Don't waste your money on it. If you're interested I'd suggest borrowing it from the library and checking it out first.
